Everton Football Club is one of the famous football clubs in England. It was founded in 1878, and was then known as St. Domingo. The reason for founding it was so that people from the parish could play sports in the winter months, as cricket was played in the summers. A year later the club was renamed Everton. This was one of the founding clubs for the Football League in 1888 and also went on to win the first League Championship in 1890-91.
In 1925, the club signed on Dixie Dean who went on to create a record for league goals in one single season; he scored sixty goals in thirty nine games. During World War II, the football clubs were suspended, and when they resumed playing after the War, Everton had lost much of its greatness and did not win any games till the mid 50s. In the 60s, Catterick was made manager and this started another successful period for the club. They won the League title in 1962. After him, Howard Kendall became manager and another successful era started. The current manager, David Moyes, was hired after the previous manager was fired for poor performance. He has taken the club to great heights, and even broke the record for highest transfer fee ever paid. In the 2006-2007 seasons, the club was sixth in the League and qualified for the UEFA Cup. In the 2007-2008 seasons the club was fifth in the league which is an improvement.
